BUILD PAGE 8 -   Building the Cart / Control Center

The whole idea behind this build project is to create a compact Router / Mill setup.   We also needed to keep the entire project mobile so that it can easily be moved around the shop and easily stored when not in use.   To do this we need to build a compact cart which will contain all of the components of this project into one neat movable package.   Let the building begin!

To get started I employed the plasma cutter again.  By cutting some plates which will be used to mount the casters.

The plates were slightly inset in the 2” tall frame and triangle supports were added to help support the weight and lower the carts center of gravity

The bottom frame is made of 1x2x.095 rectangle tube.   While .065 tube would have been fine. The cost difference was minimal so building it to be Heavy Duty will not hurt a thing.

To come up with the dimensions of the cart I carefully measured all of the components that I wanted to include and laid them out in the configuration that I wanted and mocked up the end product as close as possible.

Everything was designed to be as tight as fit as possible to minimize wasted space and keep the end product as compact as possible.

When completed it will house:  The cnc router, computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse, control box, UPS power supply, vacuum recovery system, vacuum hold down system, and plenty of storage for all of the accessories.

The base frame is complete with some cross braces to support and distribute the weight of the components.

The casters are solid wheel with a 330 lb each load rating.  The nuts were welded to the back side of the mount plate since they will be inaccessible once the deck is installed.

The casters are 5” Swivel Casters from Harbor Freight
